General Construction Aerial Lift Training Along with standard operating practices the training will cover safety issues such as fall protection for both the scissor lift and the articulating boom lift. The students will spend the majority of time in a hands-on environment. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive both a certificate of training and a safety card. Asphalt Raking The new 2-day Asphalt Raking course that starts this summer will give you a better understanding of how to work with asphalt safely and efficiently. First, students will learn about PPE, heat stroke, chemical and fume irritants, as wells as equipment hazards and first aid for molten asphalt cement burns. Next, students will head out to our asphalt training area to work with an asphalt paver. Instructors will teach individuals how to spread material and work safely. Students will use long and short-handled shovels, rakes and/or lutes to smooth and spread the material. Some attention will be given to small road patching and hand compaction. You may apply now for the Asphalt Raking course. Basic Layout This course introduces laborers to the latest in surveying technology, especially the Geodimeter System 600 surveying equipment. Topics include leveling controls, automatic correction of instrument error, electronic angle measuring, Remote Object Elevation and location of property and building lines. Prerequisites: Experience in grade checking or completion of Basic Surveying. Basic Surveying Learn to care for and operate the latest surveying equipment, including level transits, levels, full transits, rods, rules and tapes. You'll also learn construction math. In the field, students will shoot angles, learn basic layouts and practice grade control. Blueprint Reading 1 Any laborer who wants to advance in the construction field must be able to understand working drawings. Learn how to identify symbols and recognize abbreviations in drawing sets. Analyze residential floor plans, details and elevations and practice scaling and dimensioning drawings. Prerequisites: Must be able to read and solve mathematical problems at an average level. Blueprint Reading 2 This five day course addresses residential and commercial prints. We cover contractor and job specifications, building codes, and discuss the properties of most building materials. Prerequisites: Blueprint Reading 1 Burning This five day class is designed to prepare laborers for work on demolition jobs and general construction sites. Classroom studies include OSHA regulations, fire safety, personal protection equipment, and general knowledge pertaining to cutting techniques. During hands-on, students learn to set up and use portable and manifold system oxyacetylene torches. Finally, they learn to use the plasma cutter, one of the most advanced pieces of cutting equipment in this challenging and informative class. CDL Pre-Trip A one day class focused on teaching the driver to prepare for

their disposal) to use at the West Chicago testing facility. Concrete Cutting Over 3 days of training students will learn the following techniques: wall sawing, flat sawing and core drilling. PPE (personal protective equipment), safety and proper equipment usage will be stressed. Concrete Placement This basic course deals with the placement of concrete and the latest concrete technology. Specific topics include excavation, backfill and compaction, placement of concrete, concrete vibration, tool identification, finishing and curing and hands-on projects for pouring walls and flatwork. Job site safety procedures and regulations are also taught. Construction Math Did you know that all Federally-funded jobs are converting to the use of the metric system? Get a jump on the competition. In this three-day course you will become familiar with the metric system, review addition, subtraction, multiplication, concrete calculations, asphalt calculations as well as learn conversion of the engineers scale to carpenters scale. Directional Drilling In this one-week training course you will learn essentials of directional drilling. Topics will cover locator set up and calibration as well as the set up and installation of drilling equipment. Using the industries leading equipment,the DigiTrak Mark III and the Ditch Witch 75 Tracker, students will get experience drilling through all types of soil. Nearly 80 percent of the course will be hands-on, outdoor training. Equipment Operation This five-day course deals with approved safety procedures for the operation of equipment. Basic operation of an industrial forklift, Lull and construction skidloader is taught, along with ongoing maintenance procedures. Hands-on training in identification and usage of the universal hand signs will also be a part of this course. Framing The 5-day course, Framing, focuses on enhancing our laborers knowledge of frameworking. Trainees will be shown a prototype of the framing project and with instructor guidance, will replicate the item. Students will learn safety and proper techniques for both power tools and hand tools. In an effort to allow for maximum hands-on time, the class size will be kept to approximately 6 people. GPS - Global Positioning Our 5-day course prepares a worker to setup and configure a base station and rover, teaches them various measuring techniques and outlines uses for simple structure layouts. Individuals will learn the components of the GPS, principles of operation, field procedures, data collection and configuration procedures. Hydromobile A two-day course that fulfills the City of Chicago's requirements for a qualified Hydromobile Scaffold worker. Students will be taught to assemble, disassemble and to operate the system properly. Prerequisites: Scaffold Builders Industrial Power Vehicle (Class 4 and Class 7 certification) A one-day or two-night course which begins with a review of basic safety and operation procedures for the forklift and rough terrain forklift. All students will be tested for certification on both classes of fork trucks at the end of the class. This course is offered to experienced drivers only. If you have less than 1 year of fork truck experience, enroll in the Equipment Operation, a week long course, for the Class 4 and Class 7 certifications. Prerequisite: Scaffold Builders course. Prerequisites: Scaffold Builders Mechanical Pipe This course will introduce you to connection of hydrants, pipe water valves and meter hookups. You will learn about cut sheets and pipe prints. Prerequisites: Pipelaying. Pipelaying (Sewer and water pipeline training) Focuses on the principles and techniques of installing gravity flow pipe. Laser aligners, transits, checking line and grade, and crew member responsibilities will be reviewed. You will learn how to determine pipe slope and percentage of grade using the pipe laser. Also covers different ground conditions, soil types and OSHA safety regulations regarding trenching and excavation. Prerequisites: Basic Surveying. Pipeline Operator Qualification This hands-on course meets the requirements set forth by many pipeline
companies for task testing. We offer both a 1-day course for experienced
pipeline workers and a week-long course for inexperienced workers. Pneumatic Tools This comprehensive five day course addresses the use of pneumatic tools and discusses safety for the user. Tool recognition and maintenance, to assist in equipment longevity, are included. Students learn to use the pavement breaker, chipping guns, grinder, drills and vibrators, hand-held and power-driven saws. Back safety and proper lifting procedures are discussed and practiced. Scaffold Photo Renewal This course is available for people who have an expired or nearly expired photo scaffold ID.
Only cards issued on or after April 1, 2003 will be updated for 4 more years. If your card was issued at an earlier date, you will have to take the full training. Wall Forming (Advanced Concrete) This 5-day course utilizes the Symons form system. The class is designed for
individuals with concrete experience. Forming projects are similar to
residential and light commercial construction. Prerequisites: You must have completed concrete placement in order to enroll in
this course Welding After taking this five day course laborers are prepared to weld on a general construction site. They learn OSHA regulations, grinder safety, PPE and general principles of basic welding. Set up and use of Arc and Migg welders for various projects are covered in addition to identification and creation of filet, open and closed corner, butt, T, J, and square groove welds. Prerequisites: Burning Environmental 45-Hour Hazardous Waste Worker Training (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120) This course has minimal hands-on training and is available only for experienced environmental workers. Prerequisites: Minimum one year experience removing asbestos or lead. 80-Hour Hazardous Waste Worker Training (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120) This two week course addresses proper clothing, personal protective equipment and health effects. Provides extensive hands-on training in the handling of hazardous waste.

Lead Worker Renewal A one day, 8-hour course certified and licensed through
the State of Illinois. Lead Worker Training This 35 hour course reviews health effects, use of protective clothing and respirators, safety procedures and provides hands-on training. Mold An essential course for Laborers working in schools or buildings where mold is present. Course topics will include: Indoor air quality, sick building syndrome, health effects, remediation techniques, sampling, safety, histoplasmosis and avian related diseases and regulations. Prerequisites: Lead Training, Asbestos Training or Hazardous Waste Training Nuclear Station Housekeeping Also known as Housekeeping B, this course is required before starting employment at ComEd's Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant. The eight hour course consists of classroom study of rules and regulations and hands-on procedures that should be practiced on the job. Prerequisites: N-GET training available from ComEd (contact information). Radiation A 24 hour Advanced Hazardous Waste Training Course that clearly spells out the dangers of radiation while cleaning up hazardous waste. Laborers will be taught the proper use of radiation-sensitive equipment and Advanced Confined Space Entry. Prerequisites: 80 hour Hazardous Waste course. Safety 10-Hour OSHA Safety and Health Review of OSHA standards for trenching and excavation, concrete construction, ladders, and scaffolds, fire protection, confined spaces, oxygen and acetylene and other areas. You will be issued a certificate and OSHA card after completion. 10-Hour Work Zone Safety In this 2-day course students will not only learn proper work zones issues for general road work and highway work zones, but they will also receive flaggers training. Safety topics will include concrete work, power tools, back safety and communication issues. 1-Day MEA Renewal This class is for the individuals who took the Operator Qualification course
with hands-on testing more than 3 years ago. 1-Week MEA Update A 5-day course necessary for those that need to comply with the Midwest
Energy Association's regulations. People who took the original Q-41 course
without hands-on testing need to take this course. 30-Hour OSHA Safety and Health Review of OSHA standards for trenching and excavation, concrete construction, ladders, and scaffolds, fire protection, confined spaces, oxygen and acetylene and other areas. You will be issued a certificate and OSHA card after completion. American Red Cross First Aid/CPR Contractors are required to have a person trained in First Aid and CPR on each job site. In this class, you will learn the latest techniques for artificial respiration, obstructed airway, severe bleeding, poisoning, burns and broken bones. People who complete this class will be able to give immediate care to persons who are injured or become ill on or off the job. Back Safety & Ergonomics This course, incorporated into many of our classes, provides a working knowledge of back safety practices including lecturing and hands-on projects, demonstration of proper body mechanics, and discussion of common back disorders, injury prevention and back injury management. Hands-on will deal with flexibility, proper lifting and handling techniques, and repetitive motion. Combination Safety A definite must for the beginner and experienced laborer. This five day course contains all the safety training that a conscientious contractor would want in a laborer. You will receive a 10 hour OSHA card, First Aid/CPR card, flaggers certification, hazard communication, back safety and ergonomics. Confined Space Entry This 5-day class will teach you to identify and evaluate different confined space hazards. The scope, application and purpose of a confined space will be reviewed along with areas of atmospheric testing, isolation and lockout/tagout. Hands on includes tripod set up, air movement and entrance/exit procedures with each student in a mock confined space. Classroom topics will cover ventilation requirements, safeguards and OSHA regulations. Confined Space Safety This three day class teaches you to identify and evaluate different confined space hazards. Disaster Site Worker (DSW) This three-day course is comprised of lectures, instructor-led discussions and hands-on skills assessment (respiratory protection). The DSW needs to recognize that they have a responsibility to make decisions and choices that will affect their personal health and safety and that of others at the site. Prerequisites: 10- or 30-hour OSHA safety and health card Fall Protection Become aware of the technical information regarding the human body in fall arrest and suspension. This class will cover the different classifications of the Fall Protection Systems card. Classroom study of rules and regulations will be taught along with demonstrations and hands-on projects. Flagger Certification IDOT requires all Construction flaggers to have four hours of Flaggers Certification training. We are constantly adding new classes, so check here often. Hoisting and Rigging This three day class reviews the techniques for proper rigging. Classroom discussions include safety requirements and rules and regulations. Hands-on demonstrations using various wire ropes and slings to move material are given in addition to coverage of fastening methods, rigging hardware and proper hand signals. Interactive Safety An independent course designed to teach students
different safety issues. The course can be taken for 1 - 14 days. Students
will use computers to guide themselves through the course. Topics include,
but are not limited to forklift safety, electrical safety, personal
protection equipment, lockout/tagout and confined space. The course does not
require any prior knowledge of computers. Call for more information on

Pipeline Safety (Cross-country natural gas and liquid petroleum piping) Our new 5-day Pipeline Safety course will be composed of both classroom and hands-on training. Students will learn about the different crews, equipment and other basic pipeline tasks. Some topics include: silt screen fence setup, chain saw operation, M-scope operation, skid setting, sandblasting, coating applications and cad welding. Scaffold Builders Course This three day hands-on course teaches the building and dismantlement of several scaffold systems, as well as discussion of fall protection, load limits, and inspections.This meets the new OSHA regulations for Builder and Dismantler of scaffold. Scaffold Frame Only This course teaches the building and dismantlement of frame only scaffold systems. Scaffold Users Course This one day course covers load limits, electrical hazards, fall protection, inspections, and more. Meets new OSHA scaffold regulations for the User of Scaffold. Trenching & Shoring We review and discuss OSHA guidelines for trenching, shoring, soil classifications, protective systems, rescue shoring and shoring systems design. The hands-on in this three day course is extensive. Topics include: hydraulic shoring, screw jacks, air and timber shores, trench shields, manhole braces and much more. TOP
