3rd Quarter, 2007 This spring we started offering a new Pipeline Safety course.The National Pipeline Agreement now specifies that an individual must : Have either 200 hours in the last 2 years or 400 hours in the last 4 years, or Have received training in the Laborers/AGC Pipeline Safety Course Our new Pipeline Safety course is composed of both classroom and hands-on training. Students learn about the different crews, equipment and other basic pipeline tasks. Asphalt Training Starting Up The new 2-day Asphalt Raking course that starts this summer will give you a better understanding of how to work with asphalt safely and efficiently. First, students will learn about PPE, heat stroke, chemical and fume irritants, as wells as equipment hazards and first aid for molten asphalt cement burns. Next, students will head out to our asphalt training area to work with an asphalt paver. Instructors will teach individuals how to spread material and work safely. Students will use long and short-handled shovels, rakes and/or lutes to smooth and spread the material. Some attention will be given to small road patching and hand compaction. You may apply now for the Asphalt Raking course. Computer Lab If you are interested in attending the computer- based safety training courses, please forward an application from your Local Union. Classes will run Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Training segments have a central theme of safety and hazard awareness.
Flagger Cards Expire Flagger cards are only good for 3 years. Check your card to make sure its not expired. And, as with all our renewal courses, apply early. Have your local union forward an application so you aren't working with an expired card. A flagger renewal is the same course as the initial training.
