Environmental Refreshers and Re-training

An environmental training course usually takes five days to complete. Our Hazardous Waste initial training class is a 10-day course. There is an extensive amount of information to be learned and the health risks associated with environmental work can be very serious. Because of these factors, environmental classes generally have an expiration date associated with the license and have to be renewed on a regular basis. Lately, we have noticed that many people complete the initial course, but fail to renew the license. After a few years, the same person signs up again for the initial class, having never renewed the license, expecting to be retrained. The Training Center will accommodate a re-training, but the individual will NOT receive a stipend check for the class. Environmental classes are regulated by the State and seats are limited. We encourage our trained members to renew their licenses each year to keep on top of the changes in rules and regulations for the environmental industry. If people would renew their licenses, our waiting lists for the initial training courses would be considerably lower; allowing us to get new trainees into the Training Center more quickly.

Check Your Location

Now that our Homer St. Training Center is fully functional, it is important that our students check their confirmation letters carefully. We have had several students arrive at the wrong facility on their training date. The map enclosed with your letter will reflect the correct location. Also, when in doubt, CALL the Training Center.

Happy Retirement, Mary!

Since 1993, people calling the Training Center were greeted with a warm voice and listened to with a compassionate heart. Our receptionist/office worker, Mary Hocin, retired on February 28th. Not only will we miss everything she did in the office, but we will also miss her laughter and her dedication to our membership. Mary, who had been married to a Laborer, had the remarkable quality of putting our members at ease and truly listening to their problems because of her real-life experiences. Many a member has benefited from her kind words and sympathetic spirit. We wish her all the best for a long and healthy retirement.
