  1. Oct 23 OSHA 30-Hour Safety and Health Course 5 Days, 08:00AM - 03:30PM

    This 5 - Day course encompasses all aspects of the 10-Hour OSHA training course with additional emphasis on safety and health management and additional topics covered in the construction standards. Recommended four year renewal period.

  2. Equipment Operation 5 Days, 08:00AM - 03:30PM

    This 5-Day course deals with approved safety procedures for the operation of equipment. Basic operation of an industrial forklift, Lull and construction skidloader is taught, along with ongoing maintenance procedures. Hands-on training in identification and usage of the universal hand signals will also be a part of this course. Renewal period of three years for Class 4 & 7 Forklifts and Skid Steers. Renewal period of four years for Aerial Lifts.

  3. Pneumatic Tools (Apprentice Only) 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This comprehensive five day course addresses the use of pneumatic tools and discusses safety for the user. Tool recognition and maintenance, to assist in equipment longevity, are included. Students learn to use the pavement breaker, chipping guns, grinder, drills and vibrators, hand-held and power-driven saws. Back safety and proper lifting procedures are discussed and practiced. Renewal period of five years.

  4. Mason Tending (Apprentice Only) 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    The Mason Tending course is a five day course that teaches Laborers to set up a work site for masonry work. Students will mix mortar, stack brick and/or cinder blocks for the Mason's use.

  5. Oct 24 Trenching and Shoring Safety 2 Days, 08:00AM - 03:30PM

    We review and discuss OSHA guidelines for trenching, shoring, soil classifications, protective systems, rescue shoring and shoring systems design. The hands-on in this two day course is extensive. Topics include: hydraulic shoring, screw jacks, air and timber shores, trench shields, manhole braces and much more.

  6. 1-Day Silica Exposure Awareness 1 Day, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    The Chicagoland Laborers' Training Fund is offering this 1- Day (8 hour) training course as part of our continued education. This course will meet and comply with OSHA's Final Rule on Silica Exposure. OSHA has amended thier previous exposure limits due to significant risk to workers' health. All contractors must comply with OSHA's Final Rule by September 23, 2017.

  8. Oct 26 Scaffold Builder Refresher 1 Day, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This 1-Day refresher training is required every 4 years to renew your CLTAF Scaffold Buiders Certification. Participants will be refreshed and required to pass a hands-on performance assessment on the follow scaffold systems:

    • Frame Scaffolds
    • Tube and Clamp Scaffolds
    • Systems Scaffolds
    • Suspension Scaffolds                                 
  9. Oct 27 Aerial Lift Training 4 Hours, 08:00AM - 12:00PM

    Training focuses on daily inspection, maintenance and safe operation relating to scissor and boom lifts. The majority of the training class time will be devoted to a hands-on environment. Renewal period of five years.

  10. Oct 30 Scaffold Technology 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    Effective October 1st, 2015

    CLTAF's current 2-Day Scaffold Builders course will no longer be offered. A 5-Day Scaffold Technology course will be available.

    The Scaffold Builders course has been redesigned and standardized on a national level for implementation by all Training Funds. The Scaffold Technology course is also recognized by International Accreditation Services (IAS).

    This new 5-Day course will cover the following Scaffold Systems:
    • Frame
    • Tube and Clamp
    • System
    • Suspension

    This Scaffold training certification will expire in 4 years and participants will need to take a 1-Day Scaffold Refresher to renew their certification.

    This training meets the  OSHA regulations for Scaffold Builders.

  11. Hoisting and Rigging 40 Hours, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    Training focuses on the mathematical formulas for proper rigging techniques. These formulas will be used in determining correct sling angles and load calculations. The signal person safety training (SPST) is also a part of this curriculum. Renewal period of four years.

  12. Line and Grade 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This 5 - Day course will focus on the correct set up and use of the builder’s level for elevation control and transfer of grade. Course will also feature the use of a transit for basic layout. Renewal period of five years.

  13. OSHA 30-Hour Safety and Health Course 5 Days, 08:00AM - 03:30PM

  15. Lead Abatement Worker Training 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This training fulfills EPA and State of Illinois (IDPH) requirements for obtaining a Lead Abatement Worker license. Training covers the uses of lead, health effects, PPE and abatement and disposal requirements. Hands-on activities include the use of air purifying respirators, construction of containments and decontamination units, as well as simulated removal of lead-based paint. This certificate is valid for three years. Students with an expired certificate for more than 12 months are not elligible for reaccreditation and must retake the initial training course.

  16. Nov 1 Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) 24 Hours, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    A required certification for all Laborers working in a hospital or healthcare environment. Topics will include: setting up and maintaining a negative air environment; removing debris; constructing barriers to prevent the spread of infectious diseases; monitoring the work environment and inspecting, donning and removing personal protection equipment.

  19. Asbestos Abatement Worker Training 5 Days, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This course fulfills all of the EPA, State of Illinois (IDPH) and Indiana (IDEM) requirements for obtaining an Asbestos Worker license. Hands-on activities include the use of air purifying respirators, construction of negative pressure containment and decontamination unit, as well as simulated removal and clean up of asbestos materials.

    Focuses on the principles and techniques of installing gravity flow pipe. Laser aligners, transits, checking line and grade, and crew member responsibilities will be reviewed. You will learn how to determine pipe slope and percentage of grade. Renewal period of five years.

  29. Burning 2 Days, 08:00AM - 03:30PM

    Training is designed to prepare Laborers for work on demolition projects and general construction sites. Classroom studies include OSHA regulations and safe work practices. During hands-on training, students will learn proper set up, follow correct torch procedures, as well as practice effective cutting techniques. Students will apply these learned skills with various fuels used in the industry, including acetylene, propylene and propane. Plasma cutting is also introduced. Renewal period of five years.

  30. Nov 14 Labor History I (Mandatory Apprentice Seminar) 4 Hours, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This course will be taught by a professor from the Universtiy of Illinois.     This annual refresher training fulfills all of the EPA, State of Illinois (IDPH) and Indiana (IDEM) requirements for maintaining an Asbestos Supervisor license. Students with an expired certificate for more than 6 months (Indiana) or 12 months (Illinois) are not elligible for reaccreditation and must retake the initial training course.

  32. Nov 16 Lead Abatement Supervisor Refresher 1 Day, 07:00AM - 03:30PM

    This training focuses on preparing the driver for the Pre-trip inspection and Basic Skills portions of the Road Test that will be performed at the Secretary of State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
