Applications will be accepted year-round though our Contractor Sponsorship program.

Length of apprenticeship program
The term of Apprenticeship shall be approximately two (2) years and 2400 hours of on-the-job diversified work and training, excluding time spent in related instruction.

Apprentices shall attend related instruction classes not less than 360 hours for 2 years. Attendance and satisfactory progress in related classes and studies are a specific obligation of the apprentice and failure to meet this obligation will result in disciplinary action by the CLJTAF.

Program wage progression and benefit schedule
Apprentices begin at 60% of union scale and as they complete classroom training and field hours they will progress to 70%, 80%, 90% and eventually will earn full journey worker's wage which is now $33.15 per hour.

Program benefits
Apprentices will receive full health and welfare and pension benefits, based on eligibility requirements. They must complete a minimum of 600 hours per six months, attend required related training courses, and attend union meetings to progress to the next wage level.

Minimum qualifications

  • Tenth Grade Education
  • Not less than 18 years of age. Proof of age will be required.
  • Physically able to perform the work of the trade.
  • A reading, writing and communicating ability that enables the applicant to perform the tasks of the Construction Craft Laborer in a safe manner and comprehend the subject matter taught, in English only, in related instruction.
  • Have photo ID (Driver's License or State ID).
  • Illegal substance testing shall be required.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Application process
At the time of application, applicant must submit the following:

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Photo ID (Drivers' License or State ID)
  3. High School Diploma, GED or transcript showing completion of tenth grade
  4. Sponsorship Letter
  5. Original Social Security Card
  6. A written aptitude test will be administered.
  7. An oral interview will be given.
  8. Essential Functions of Craft
    — Lifting
    — Working at heights (scaffolds)
    — Working with all types of machinery
    — Working conditions will be comparable to those the apprentice will endure when working for a contractor. (Inclement weather: hot, cold, dusty, noisy, etc.)
